A Poem for Sandi
Sandi you taught me everything, everything I know
And for that my gratitude is too great to show.
Let’s start with lessons: “heels down, legs back”
How do you use oil, how do you clean tack?
Telling Mum to buy a pony, the best thing you have done
because without little Lucky there wouldn’t have been much fun!
You introduced us to your stables, and the rules to using your shed
And yes I must admit, it slipped straight through my head.
You were always there when needed, to teach or just to chat
And at my very first show, you even helped us plait.
You passed me through my D and all the way to C,
And now with your past help, K will be a breeze!
Through pony club I saw you were always in the mix
Whether testing riders on their D or helping us fit bits.
You always helped with events like the Nugget or a rally
and three of your students got to Nationals: Desiree, Mitch and Kelly.
The hours you put in were astronomical at first
But now I know the reason this routine is well rehearsed.
Your love for horses and riders is strong
And I thank you for helping us along.
I will never forget you coming out of your green shed
The black hat perched on your head
A life member; in Kalgoorlie or over the seas
You will always remain part of KDPC.
